What happens to marital debt?

Marital debt is divided between the parties.  In the event that one of the parties has greater ability to pay marital debt than the other party, the court may apportion a larger share of the marital debt to the spouse with the higher income.  Debt incurred by a spouse after the date of separation is allocated to the spouse who incurred the debt.
