Who pays attorneys' fees?

Generally speaking, each party pays his or her own attorney's fees, the exception being when one of the parties has greater need than the other party and the party earning the higher income has the means to pay the lower income spouse's attorney's fees.  Also, the court may order that one of the parties pays attorneys' fees based on conduct of that party for unreasonably contributing to the length or expense of the proceeding, for failure to cooperate, or for being unreasonable in some other way.
