How long does it take before I can be divorced?
How long it takes to actually be granted a decree of dissolution or a decree of legal separation depends on: 1) The parties' ability to cooperate with each other to bring the dissolution proceeding to a satisfactory conclusion by reaching an agreement on all disputes arising out of the dissolution action. 2) The county in which the proceeding is venued. It takes less time to be divorced in a smaller county than it does in the larger metropolitan counties such as Hennepin County. A divorce is granted on the average within six months of the service of the Summons and Petition upon the respondent.
