What are the grounds for divorce?

The only "ground" for divorce in Minnesota is an "irretrievable breakdown of the marriage relationship" which means that the parties no longer wish to live together and want to go their own separate ways.  There are no defenses to divorce such as condonation, connivance, collusion, recrimination, insanity, and lapse of time.  In other words, if one of the parties wants to leave the marriage, the court finds that the marriage relationship is irretrievably broken and over.
