How is a divorce action commenced in the State of Minnesota?

The divorce action is commenced by personal service of the Summons and Petition venued in the county where either spouse resides.  The Minnesota Statutes also provide for alternate service.  Service may be made by publication pursuant to a court order if the whereabouts of the respondent are unknown.
